Which way have you set your sails?

“It is the set of the sails, not the direction of the wind that determines which way we will go.”

Jim Rohn

This quote by Jim Rohn is something I think about often when I think about the pursuit of a better attitude.

Jim talks about this concept when he discusses how two different people can have the same exact circumstances but end up with different attitudes towards what happened.

Jim believes that the set of your sails (your personal philosophy) on life is the major determinant of where you will end up in life.

The currents and winds of life affect us all.  It is the way we use those currents and winds of life that determine how far and how fast we will go.

Have a negative attitude and view on life and you will be constantly battling against those winds and currents and get nowhere.

Find a way to embrace everything life has to offer and you will feel like the wind is at your back and you are moving ever closer to your goals and ultimate happiness.

I think this also happens with what we think about.  Earl Nightingale said “We become what we think about most of the time”.  When we set our sail in particular direction, we get to where we want to go.

Think about where you are in your life, where you are in the process of meeting your goals, and how positive or negative your days feel.  Then think about your sail and how it is set.

Make sure your sail is set in the direction you want to go.
