Everyone seems to come out of the gates on January 1st with a new set of goals for themselves. These “New Year’s Resolutions” seem to drive us go get a great start to a new year and finally put into motion a plan for self improvement. Often times, it’s goals like shedding a few pounds, eating healthier, quitting a vice like smoking or drinking, etc. that drive us.
For each one of us, who set goals for themselves in this new year, I applaud you!
However, my question is what goals are you setting for your BUSINESS in 2011?
Are you “shedding a few pounds” in the company and trying to drive profitability by cutting unneeded expenses in the budget?
Maybe your company will be “eating healthier” and better targeting your prospects to create a more predictable and increased gross margin…
Or it might be time to “quit a vice” or bad habit in the business like cancelling/bypassing regular management meetings because everyone is so busy…
For CEO’s and business owners, this is a really important time to have a vision for company-wide improvement. These needed improvements should become the goals that you set for your company and communicate to your management and staff. Alignment is KEY to accomplishing these goals, so every individual needs to know their role to make a difference…and then be held accountable to those responsibilities.
Without complete understanding and buy-in from your team, the goals (and company) are at risk of failure.
If you haven’t yet set the company goals for 2011, DO SO TODAY!
If you haven’t yet communicated them to your staff, SCHEDULE THAT MEETING!
The toughest part about being a business owner is that time absolutely flies by. If you blink, you miss a month…or a quarter. Don’t let another day go by without setting some goals and making them a company-wide initiative.
Today, I realize how blessed I was 3 years ago to have someone insist that I do the same at Mavidea. It has made an immeasurable difference in myself and the company!
