The Important Things

I have come to an interesting (at least to me) conclusion recently.

I will NEVER accomplish everything on my list of to dos.  Never ever.

For those of you who already knew this, I apologize for being behind the curve on this one.

At first, this conclusion was a little frustrating for me and I have to admit that I fought it at least a little bit.

But that led me to the more important conclusion:  life isn’t about getting every single thing done, it is about getting the important things done and enjoying the process along the way.

This is still something I work on every day, but it is becoming easier and easier as time goes on.  When I am doing this well (focusing on the important stuff and not sweating the small stuff) I am happier, more free, and more productive.

Being more productive is the interesting side effect.  By not worrying and spending time on the little things, I can be more productive.  By not doing certain things, more things get done.

Think about your goals.  Then think about what you spend your time worrying and thinking about.

Want to lose 20 pounds but instead of exercising at night do you spend your time worrying about what you shouldn’t have eaten that day?

Want to accumulate money for retirement but instead of focusing on investing money you worry and think about each bill you get every month and how to cut $2 from each one?

Want to start reading to learn every day but instead of picking up a book you pick up the newspaper and “keep up with important news”?

Do you let yourself get bogged down in all the small tasks every day instead of focusing on the big ones?

Let’s make a concerted effort as a group to focus on the most important things first.  Each of us have things in our role at Mavidea (and our roles at home) that are more important than the little things we tend to worry about every day.

Find someone to hold you accountable on this one.  Ask them how you are doing.  Ask them to keep you in line.  Listen when they tell you that you are off track.

Make it a great day.
