State of the Union

Last night I was catching up on email a little and realized that I was missing the State of the Union Speech, so I decided to listen to it online for a while.

It was a great reminder of how lucky we all really are.

While I certainly don’t think our government and its operations are perfect (far from it), I do believe that we live in the greatest nation on earth.

We are fortunate to have the most beautiful and diverse landscapes (that I hope to see more of).

We have the freedom and economic system that rewards innovation, productivity, hard work and the delivering of value to others.

We love and respect our fellow Americans regardless of religion, age, sex, race, or any other superficial designation placed on them.

We have a volunteer army that is made up of truly remarkable heroes that protect our freedom every day.  Thank you for your service, JM and JW.

While I am not naive enough to think our government or even America as a whole is perfect, I do believe that we are the best there is and we are only going to get better from here.

Regardless of your political views or your frustration (or lack thereof, maybe) with the government, remember today that you are truly lucky to be an American.  We are lucky to live in America.  We are lucky to be free and have all the opportunity we need, right in front of us.

Spend a quiet minute today thinking about how lucky we really are.
