Spoonful of Sugar

Today’s email is one that I have been thinking of for a while, but was reminded of last night.

It all starts with this video, at the very least, watch this and start your day with a smile:

Last night we were cleaning up the girls rooms and had some music playing.  At one point, I looked over and caught Meaghan singing and dancing to Michael Jackson and was reminded that a spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down.

As you can imagine, with a 4 year old little girl at home, we have watched Marry Poppins many times.  And every time this song comes on, I think it is such a great lesson for little Maggie (and myself).

We all have jobs to do in any given day that might not be the most fun or entertaining.  We can all turn those tasks into fun by just coming up with a creative and fun way to do them.

Instead of looking at the ringing (or silent) phone in front of you as if it were a ton of bricks and picking it up again will take all your strength; smile and come up with a funny greeting, challenging yourself to make the other person on the line smile from ear to ear.

Instead of sitting quietly at your desk while working on your newest whiz bang spreadsheet, turn on some music that will make you smile.  Maybe even whistle a little.

Instead of just typing away at your daily attitude in quiet solitude, listen to more silly movie songs while you type (ok, that one was for me).

While you are doing your daily tasks today, think of something fun to make a game of it or something else to do at the same time.

I keep being reminded that I have to learn to enjoy the processes of life.  All of them.  I can’t afford to waste even one day complaining or dragging myself through the task in front of me, today is the only today I get.

Another reminder for all of us as we work together today.  Be the spoonful of sugar for someone else today.  Crack a joke.  Sing a song.
