I wanted to send out a quick post to let you all know that Microsoft Office 2010 is here! Well, mostly…. Microsoft Volume Licensing for businesses has Office 2010 available right now, but OEM (pre-installed on computers) and Retail Box will be out soon.
Office 2010 is being featured in almost every computer magazine, and a lot of trade journals, and in traditional Microsoft fashion, most Mavidea clients I have talked to are confused. So let’s try to clarify things a bit, shall we?
First of all, let’s go over the business editions that are available, and what is in each edition.
Programs, products, and features | Home & Business | Standard | Professional | Professonial Plus |
Retail Box or pre -installed | Volume Licensing | Retail Box or pre-installed | Volume Licensing | |
Excel 2010 | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes |
Word 2010 | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes |
Powerpoint 2010 | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes |
OneNote 2010 | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes |
Outlook 2010 | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes |
Publisher 2010 | No | Yes | Yes | Yes |

InfoPath 2010 | No | No | No | Yes |
SharePoint Workspace 2010 | No | No | No | Yes |
Communicator 2010 | No | No | No | Yes |
Some quick notes:
- There is one Office 2010 suite not listed above – Home and Student edition. We only put business editions in the chart, but Home and Student edition is the same as Home and Business except you don’t get Outlook 2010.
- The vast majority of Mavidea customers used Office 2007 Small Business edition. It has simply been renamed to Office 2010 Standard edition.
You’ll notice that Office OneNote 2010 is in every edition now. OneNote was only found in Professional Plus before – we Mavidea techs love OneNote! Check out a 3 minute video that gives a quick overview of how OneNote can help you be productive here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xdi67tnx6nA
You’ll also notice there are no prices above. It’s simply because there are 6 different ways for you the customer to purchase Microsoft Office. 6 ways, 6 different prices, and each of them designed to solve specific business needs. The good news is that I’m here to work with you to determine which version is going to be the best option for your company – after 10 years I’ve seen it all and will help guide you through the Microsoft licensing process.
Most of Mavidea has been using Office 2010 in the beta program since last December. Everyone who has been using it, loves it. In future posts I’ll try to talk about what some of our people’s favorite features and how it helps them in their jobs.
Talk with you soon,
Jamie
