Laughter…

Jake is out all week on a well-deserved vacation, and he has asked the others to fill in for him all week.

So I’ll just start this thing off by telling you all that I had a great weekend.  I worked my butt off Saturday morning for the last Farmers’ Market of the year, and then I took a nap.

Go up, watched a couple of bad action movies, read a book, did the dishes, and got to hang out of my buddy Dan and play some video games.  And I laughed a lot.  In general, people crack me up.

There was a news story last week that showed a graph about how much people laugh at different ages.  I couldn’t find it again, but 2 year olds laugh something like 10 times as much as a 30 year old.  Most adults only laugh something like 3-4 times per day.  That probably explains a lot about our society.

Now the good thing is that working at Mavidea, I think it’s fair to say that most of us laugh far more often than 3-4 times a day.  We’re ahead of the curve!  We are a bunch of snarky, ironic, sarcastic, jovial, and hilarious group.  The antics around the office (hopefully not in front of customers) help keep things light-hearted and upbeat.  I mean, where else can you get hosed down by 100’s of nerf darts for forgetting to clean up the conference room?

You guys make me laugh on a regular basis, and I thank you all for that because it’s good for us all:

  • Laughter relaxes the whole body. A good, hearty laugh relieves physical tension and stress, leaving your muscles relaxed for up to 45 minutes after.
  • Laughter boosts the immune system. Laughter decreases stress hormones and increases immune cells and infection-fighting antibodies, thus improving your resistance to disease.
  • Laughter triggers the release of endorphins, the body’s natural feel-good chemicals. Endorphins promote an overall sense of well-being and can even temporarily relieve pain.
  • Laughter protects the heart. Laughter improves the function of blood vessels and increases blood flow, which can help protect you against a heart attack and other cardiovascular problems.

So make an effort this week to make someone laugh!  The holidays can be a stressful time of year for everyone, especially if you have to travel.  Do your best to say all of your pleases  and thank-yous, and make people laugh!

Now for my song – this is different than our normal songs in these emails.  It’s country music, but it makes me laugh every time I see the video, so give it a watch:
